Must be Fate

It's funny how things can happen in life. Earlier this year I was looking at harps for sale on various instrument and harp websites. I had no plans to buy a new one but occasionally I like to see what is available.

My eyes finally fell on a Camac Aziliz, a favorite brand of mine, and it was the most beautiful harp I have ever seen. It was red with inlay and painted detailing. While I still wasn't fully committed to buying a new harp I left the page open on my phone with hopes I might get one in the future.

A couple months passed and while I found myself occasional re-looking at the page with my dream instrument nothing changed. One day after having a non-harp related conversation with my parents about estate sales I did an internet search to look up how estate auctions worked. I wound up on an auction website that shows auctions from different auction houses around the world. After doing various searches on furniture and jewelry I decided to type in harp. I wasn't really expecting much but did it as a lark. Several results came up. Mostly pedal harps, and few lap harps and one Paraguayan harp. I was about to close the page when my eyes saw what looked like a regular sized lever harp with pretty trim. It looked familiar to me but it was hard to tell with a small photo. I clicked for more details and couldn't believe my eyes. It was the Camac Aziliz I wanted just green and not red. After investigating a little more I saw the auction house was located in PA so not too far from my home in MD. Though I knew it would change the starting bid price was incredible.

After contacting the Auction house I drove to take a closer look at the instrument and give it a play. It was even more beautiful in person and I could tell it was brand new. I went home and placed my starting bid and max bid and waited for auction day.

The day came and I was glued to my computer. I watched as one item after another went up and sold. Very few had bidding wars so I was hopeful not a lot people were watching and that meant I would have an easier time claiming victory.

Finally, it was my turn. After back and forth with one bidder I thought I was going to win but at the last minute another bidder swooped in and tried to out bid me. I wasn't giving up and claimed victory! My dad and I drove up to pick up the harp a couple days after winning.

I'm so excited this instrument is now part of my musical story and look forward to the many stories we get to tell.
